Brazilian Oliveira quits Kashima to return home

Three-time J-League winning coach Oswaldo de Oliveira has decided to part ways with Kashima Antlers after five seasons at the helm.

The club announced Oliveira s request to return to Brazil after their Emperor Cup s campaign concludes, with their next game against Kyoto Sanga on December 17.

The former Cruzeiro and Fluminense boss was keen to return to his homeland for personal reasons and will take over at Botafogo where he has signed a three-year contract.

Me and Botafogo already agreed a future situation to start working in January, Oliveira told Botafogo s website.

Even from Japan, I will start developing a plan with the club s directors, especially when it comes to contracts and important details for the next season. It will be primordial to make the work advance. We have to put the past a side and get ready to conquer our goals in the future.

The 60-year-old coach is a famous figure in Japan, having achieved record-breaking success with Kashima Antlers during his five years at the club.

After joining Kashima in 2007, Oliveira lifted three J-League titles with the club in three successive years thus establishing himself as a fan favourite with the Antlers.

He also guided them to the Emperor s Cup in 2007 and 2010 and the 2011 J-League Cup.

Kashima have yet to name the successor for Oliveira, who became the first coach to be named J-League Manager of the Year for three successive years from 2007 to 2009.
